Journey to YUNO 05 |Clearer Vision, Smarter Care

Why We Kept Improving YUNO’s Video Quality

Clearer vision is not just a better viewing experience. For YUNO, it is the foundation for smarter recognition, more reliable records, and more reassuring everyday care.

YUNO video quality was refined through repeated real-world testing, not specification changes alone.

Hi everyone,

I’m Wonka, Product Manager of YUNO.

When designing YUNO, I always believed that a camera should do more than simply help users see their pets. More importantly, it should help them see what matters clearly.

When your pet walks up to the bowl, you want to know whether they actually ate. When they move around the room, you want to understand how they’re doing. And when you’re away from home, you want the reassurance of knowing everything is okay.

For YUNO, all of this starts with one thing: clear and reliable video.

That’s why we spent a great deal of time refining YUNO’s video experience throughout development. But improving video quality isn’t just about chasing higher specifications.

What truly matters is making the important details easier to see: whether your pet looks healthy and active, whether there is food left in the bowl, whether your pet has visited the feeding area, and how they spend their day.

Three upgrades behind a clearer view

During development, we focused on three areas that directly affect what pet parents and YUNO’s AI can understand from each frame.

Codec

From H.264 to H.265

Under similar network conditions, H.265 helps retain more image detail and reduce compression blur, keeping remote viewing clearer and more stable when bandwidth is limited.

Frame Quality

From 30 fps to 15 fps

YUNO is built for daily pet monitoring, bowl observation, remote companionship, and AI recognition. We prioritized clearer, more useful frames over faster motion alone.

Resolution

From 2MP to 3MP

Higher resolution captures more detail around a pet’s outline, the bowl edge, food particles, and close-up scenes, giving AI a more reliable visual foundation.

Tested where everyday moments happen

To achieve this, we carried out extensive testing in real-world environments. We evaluated YUNO in offices, test labs, and real homes with pets, observing how the camera performed under different lighting conditions, viewing distances, and daily scenarios. Every adjustment was followed by another round of testing, validation, and refinement.

Sometimes even a small improvement required multiple rounds of iteration. Because in the end, pet parents don’t care about technical specifications. What they care about is whether they can clearly see their pet the moment they open the app.

In external environments, we tested video stability under different lighting and spatial conditions. In a real cat room, we captured cats from different distances, including close-up white cats and moving cats, to verify image quality in real pet scenarios.

Seeing better helps YUNO understand better

For us, that became the most important measure of video quality. Clear and stable video not only helps users stay connected with their pets, but also helps YUNO better understand and record their daily activities.

Because the better YUNO can see, the better it can understand. And that is why we continue to invest so much effort into improving the viewing experience.

Our goal is simple No matter where you are, when you open YUNO, you should feel as if you’re right there with your pet, never missing the moments that matter most.
