Pet Wellness Choices: How to Evaluate Food, Supplements and Claims
Interest in pet wellness is growing, but a popular product or a broad claim is not the same as a good choice for an individual animal. A useful approach combines reliable information, your pet’s actual needs and veterinary guidance.

Start with the basics
For most pets, appropriate complete food, fresh water, activity or enrichment, dental care and preventive veterinary care matter more than trends. Ask a veterinarian before changing a diet or adding a supplement, especially for young, older, pregnant or unwell animals.
Evaluate product claims
- Look for clear ingredients, feeding instructions and the intended species and life stage.
- Be cautious with claims to cure, prevent or diagnose disease.
- Check whether supporting evidence is relevant to the product and animal concerned.
- Consider quality control, safety information and the manufacturer’s contact details.
- Compare total cost and avoid buying more than your pet needs.
“Personalised” needs professional context
Age, body condition, activity, medical history and household routine can affect feeding decisions. A connected feeder can help deliver the schedule and portion set by a caregiver, but it does not create a clinical nutrition plan, diagnose a condition or decide what is appropriate for an individual pet.
Watch your pet, not only the label
Changes in appetite, drinking, stool, weight, energy or behaviour merit attention. If you are concerned, contact a veterinarian rather than relying on a product claim or app observation alone.
